What Is Sugar Hair Removal?

Sugar hair removal, also called sugaring, is a natural way to get rid of unwanted hair. It’s a method that’s been used for centuries. It involves making a sticky paste out of just three ingredients: sugar, lemon juice, and water. This paste is then applied to your skin, sticks to the hair, and is pulled off, similar to waxing, removing the hair from its roots. The best part is that it’s less painful than traditional waxing and can be done at home. Because it’s made of natural ingredients, it’s also safer for the skin.

Melissa Jacques-Sicard

This is the best place by far to get sugaring and waxing. I love it!... Evelyn the owner is very accommodating and her professional team helped me get sooo bridal ready (body scrubs, waxing, sugaring, massages, exfoliating, and more) for my big day last year. I was so overjoyed with how I looked on my big day. I will never forget it... been going to XES Beauty Lounge for the past 3+yrs

I haven’t had the best experiences in the past with waxing/sugaring but I wanted to give it a go again. And boy did I find THE BEST place! XES is amazing. First off - they were able to squeeze me in last minute which was incredible...the whole time and was EXTREMELY patient with me. She made it less painful than I have ever experienced waxing/sugaring before.

I loved the atmosphere of the place and everyone was so kind as well! I got a sugaring wax done for the first time and was SOOOOO smooth. I think it hurt maybe a teeny bit more than the soft wax I was used to (could also be that I hadn't gotten waxed in a while) but it was a lot quicker and I noticed the hair didn't grown back as fast as the soft wax and its WAAAAY thinner. 10/10 would recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions!

Here are some frequently asked questions about sugaring. (Also known as sugar hair removal)

What is sugaring?

Sugaring is a method of hair removal that uses a natural paste made from sugar, lemon juice, and water to remove hair from its roots.

Is sugaring painful?

While everyone’s pain tolerance is different, most people find sugaring less painful than waxing because it only sticks to the hair, not the skin.

How long do the results of sugaring last?

Typically, results last about 3-6 weeks depending on your hair growth rate. With regular sugaring, hair may grow back finer and sparser.

Can I do sugaring at home?

Yes, you can do sugaring at home. However, for best results, it’s recommended to have it done by a professional, especially for difficult to reach or sensitive areas.

Is sugaring safe for all skin types?

Yes, sugaring is generally safe for all skin types as it’s made of natural ingredients. However, if you have a skin condition or are on certain medications, it’s best to consult with a professional first.

What should I do before a sugaring appointment?

You should exfoliate your skin a day before your appointment to remove dead skin cells. Avoid moisturizing on the day of your appointment as the paste may not stick well to moisturized skin.

Can sugaring cause ingrown hairs?

Sugaring can actually help prevent ingrown hairs as it exfoliates the skin and removes hair in the natural direction of growth. However, you should still exfoliate regularly between sessions to keep your skin smooth and prevent ingrown hairs.

How long does my hair need to be for sugaring?

Ideally, your hair should be at least 1/8 to 1/4 inches long for sugaring to be effective. If your hair is too short, the sugar paste may not be able to grip and remove it.

Is there any aftercare needed post-sugaring?

After sugaring, it’s best to avoid heat and sweat to prevent irritation or pimples. You should also continue to exfoliate and moisturize your skin regularly, except for the first 24 hours after sugaring.

Can sugaring be used for all parts of the body?

Yes, sugaring can be used to remove hair from all parts of the body, including the face, underarms, legs, and bikini area.
